Transplantation

Whole organs

In general, transplantations are life-saving! However, besides the complications associated with organ transplantation (the need for life-long immunosuppressive drugs), there is an overall shortage of organ donors and donor material. Oftentimes organs come available too late for patients desperately waiting for organ transplantation and sometimes organs are discarded because of poor quality. Potentially using synthetic material to facilitate the development of whole organ alternatives is not regarded as a viable solution given the complexity of human organs with e.g. complex interconnected blood vessels, nerve systems etc. Applying NovaHep’s technological approach, however, could be the missing solution! Tissues otherwise discarded could be preserved and individualized to custom fit patients. Such visions represent the beginning of a new and exciting era in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.
